Before you guys get excited, no, there is no update as to whether a new LoK game is in development. While Nosgoth, the so-called mmo is playable, it changed too much of what the series has always been about for me to openly endorse or play it. LoK very much remains in my memory and has informed much of my childhood and to that effect, I choose to preserve the memory of its predecessor games in their historical purity.
Which brings me to this section.
The RP section of this realm was entrusted to me over ten years ago and while I held numerous RP games, it all peaked with Defiance. Soon after, we rode off into the sunset, so to speak, never to fully take form again. A resurgence may be what we need but the reality is, most text based RPGs cannot truly sustain themselves. We're a lost art form, immortalized only in the minds of those that once lived that life.
I've seen, over the years, some wavering interest in the RPG section and so I've felt it prudent to make a note somewhat for you, the hapless new adventure who have stumbled upon the beautiful and enigmatic world of Nosgoth, - a world where players like yours truly - have called home for many years. It is a strange and truly mesmerizing construct and if you are as riveted as I am, then I thank you for giving this beautiful franchise the love it so desperately requires.
The RP section and the entire forums as a whole was a place where the niche group of fans of LoK could come together daily and discuss our beloved games. It was where we entertained conspiracy theories, and fan ideas about how or where the story should go. We poked and prodded, asked the difficult questions and filled in the blanks with information we gathered together.
Nosgothic Realms was the last true place where being in a community was being a part of a family. These days, gaming communities are a toxic and vile cocktail. Forums are hives of scum and villainy where players go to trumpet their egos and step on those who'd dare call themselves casuals. For that alone, I miss Nosgothic Realms and the Nosgoth RPG but it is this memory that I always carry with me and I hope that past and future players will chance upon this note and know that in the deep dark, there are others who hunger for truth, knowledge and story more than they do gear and stats and the 'right' to showboat.
We are not many and we are scattered but once upon in a while, we come across places like these - places that call to us like a port calling the lost sailor home - that gives us a sense of family and unity. A place where all are welcomed.
So stay, read our RPs and forgive us for our grammatical errors. We were young then and very much excited about the tether that bound all of us. Maybe one day in the future or in some time-lost dimension, we shall meet again or for the first time.
Like Kain, I too am waiting for the moment when the coin would land on its edge.
